A chromosomal study in interspecific hybrids of butterflies (Lep. Papilionidae). 2. Papilio polytes x p.helenus , P.polytes x p.protenor and P. polytes x P. macilentus
Spec. Bull. Lep. Soc. Jap., N0.4, 25(X I ):131-139 (1970).

1. Three interspecific hybrids between four allied species of Papilio polytes, P. helenus, P. protenor and P. macilentus, were cytologically sutudied in this paper.

2. The cytological study placed major emphasis on the chromosomal pairing at the first meiosis of F1 hybrids.

3. From the view point of genetic homology, P. polytes of the Himalayas and P. helenus of Japan are more closely related to each other than P. polyes of the Himarayas and P. protenor of Japan are.

4. P. polytes of the Himalayas and P. helenus of Japan are more closely related to each other than P. polyes and P. macilentus of Japan are.

Karyotype of Papilio polytes (n, 30, I). I: First metaphase (n=30).
